Art Dubai is the leading international art fair in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The ninth edition of the fair takes place March 18-21, 2015 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The world’s largest platform for exhibiting Arab artists presents 92 galleries from 39 countries and works from more than 500 artists.

The galleries are presented in three categories: Contemporary, the largest hall, presents 71 gallery exhibitions showing predominantly new work by artists from across the world; Modern, featuring work dating from the 1940s to the 1980s, from 15 galleries; and Marker, which focuses on a different geographic area each year and this year turns its spotlight on Latin America and that region’s relationship with the Arab world. Several galleries have opted to present major installations and ambitious solo and two-person shows.

Artist Yazan Khalili is selected to deliver a large-scale bar installation at Art Dubai 2015. The installation, located on Madinat Jumeirah’s Fort Island, is being devised under the working title of ‘The Island’ and will be themed around the concepts of past futures, questioning ideas of reality, of belonging and of the theatrical nature of life itself.

Art Dubai’s extensive not-for-profit programme includes a dynamic roster of commissioned projects, film and radio programmes; artists’ and curators’ residencies; educational initiatives for children through to professionals, including the year-round art school Campus Art Dubai; an annual exhibition of works by winners of The Abraaj Group Art Prize; and the critically-acclaimed Global Art Forum.

The fair’s ever-expanding geographic reach is at the foundation of its role as a fair of discovery. “Focusing on diversity and quality has enabled Art Dubai to attract the broadest line-up of influential and dynamic galleries,” says Antonia Carver, Fair Director, Art Dubai. “Each March, the fair – and the UAE in general – becomes a hub for art professionals and enthusiasts, and all those interested in a vision of the art world that is resolutely global.”
